    A small write up on the "Ricer"

    Heres the updates on the car over the past few months, all combined.

    Another year, another set-up and hopefully more broken records :twisted:
    This car has been on the stock motor for 4 years of racing and 46,149 miles. The head had never been off the car (obviously until now.)

    Emery, with the help of the whole STM crew, pushed this 4g63 to it's absolute limits time and time again- and eventually beyond...
    10.0@138
    10.16@142.8
    10.10@142.1
    10.1@137
    10.2@136
    10.3@137
    10.4@135
    10.8@140

    This car has been abused! I literally have over 160+ videos of this car full throttle.
    2005 = 12's
    2006 = 11's
    2007 = High 10's
    2008 = 10.04
    2009 = ???
    As of today, this car holds the record of Fastest and Quickest Stock Block Evo VIII on the Planet! Kinda cool to know we have pushed this motor harder than anyone... ever.
    So... here's the fun part... CARNAGE!
    2005 Stock Block 4g63:
    Time of Death: 46,149 miles
    1:20 pm
    September 20th 2008

    http://videos.streetfire.net/video/S...CER_187598.htm

    Let's all thanks Gleason for the great video coverage!

    Pretty cool, you can stil see the cross-hatching of the (other) 3 cylinders.

    Alot of internet haters didn't want to believe it was a stock block- can't ask for more proof than that video and pictures!

    There are alot more carnage pictures here:
    http://videos.streetfire.net/album/B...ck_1386168.htm
    So, ovbiously, we are going fully built motor for 2009. Currently AMS and Buschur are offering amazing deals for us to have THEIR motor in the RICER... which is flattering to say the least. When we make a decision, we'll let you all know.
    Here's what we've done this far:

    So, the main concern this year is the motor, weight reduction, cage and... a parachute :twisted:

    It's about that time....

    We have the brand new Megan coilovers (again) installed, The Brake Man front brakes (5.5 pound rotors!!) going upfront to replace the Willwoods we ran last year, the 15" blue TE37's (9.2 pounds), Hoosiers, and we are waiting on a carbonfiber roof to come in any day now ...
    We'll be down to see Todd to mount and balance these and I'll get some pictures of them on the car soon!
    She should be back on the ground for our open house Saturday...

    And every thing on

    Thanks Todd and Timmay and mike and Butch!

    The coilovers and ride height obviously need to be adjusted, but it was nice to get her out of the shop and dusted off.
    I dig it.

    Got some more stuff in!

    Dave Buschur hooked us up with their beautiful front mount once again - same exact style as we ran last season... Last year there were a few things that needed changing, and this piece was not one of them. Thanks again Dave!

    And if you look in the background, under that short block (without holes ) there's a completely refreshed transmission from Jon at TRE. Anyone who has seen the videos knows that thing took such a beating last year and withstood all that abuse... And Jon has always taken great care of us! Two thumbs up for TRE!

    And we also had AMS's carbon fiber roof come in.

    We are just getting ready for the install this week and if it was anyone but Cory cutting her up... I'd be nervous! But no fears, the Ricer will be unscathed and a whole lot lighter! When everything is said and done, I'll try and get everything that came out and get an exact number, but I'm going to guess about 40-50 pounds will be shaved off. I'll be sure to get pictures of the 'cutting' as long as I'm here for it!

    A few more "big" orders are going to be trickling in this month as well and I'll post up the pictures as they show up. No motor just yet, but Emery has been spending a lot of time on the phone with Mr. Buschur lately...

    Thanks to Mike from AWD Motorsports for this beauty of a driveshaft.

    That's another 15 pounds gone.

    Seats are in and quite comfortable. I love the way they look too. Very classy and clean.

    The hood fits pretty well, only a few things to nit-pick about, but most people wont notice or even care for that matter.

    We haven't fitted the trunk yet. We sat it on the car and it looks really good, but haven't bolted it on just yet.

    I really love it. I think this week we will try and get the roof on...

    And possibly Memorial weekend take a trip west with a stock long block...

    So, it's taking a little longer than expected to get the parachute and cage installed, but things are still going well. I had mentioned before they were going to use some electro-static-gizmo to paint the cage INSIDE the car... well, I guess the painter showed up and said "Not in THIS car!"

    So, they are tacking it all in place, taking it out to paint... then welding it all back in.

    It'll take an extra few weeks, but I appreciate the respect they showed the car and it's well worth the wait.

    In the meantime, this showed up:

    Tom at Driven Innovations just sent us this manifold! He strongly felt that his manifold would be a perfect addition to our goals, and gave it to us to run!

    We've been up in the air on what intake manifold to run this season, but seeing this thing in person, it is by far the best design out there for what we want to do!

    Thanks again Tom! I can't wait to get this thing going!

    And within the week the car should be coming back, with a cage!

    nice!

    I've been wondering what you had planned for that car after what happened to the motor last year.

    dumb question, but does a drag-oriented car need sway bars? (looks like you're doing everything possible to save weight)

    RWD guys typically disconnect the sway bars at the strip if they have them on, it helps the front end lift faster to promote weight transfer for better traction. Couldnt tell ya why road racers would do it in the rain though.

    In our case Yes, it needs a rear bar. This will help the car from twisting and keep traction distribted evenly between the rear tires. Most FAST rear wheel drive cars have a HUGE rear bar. Our car does not however have a front bar.

    Slows the weight transfer down across the rear axle, which is good when it's raining. Helps you to put power down on corner exit.

    Edit: PS the scalloped rotor are sexy! A few of the road racing guys in the f500 class have gone to brake man calipers because they are stronger and have less flex (at 2.5X the cost). Are they lighter than your wilwoods?

    plusI am sure that sway is hollow and probably weighs less than half of what the stock one did.
