I haven't been on roclife in quite a while, but I was wondering if anyone else on here is going to Watkins Glen on August 1st and 2nd with Trackmasters for their novice day?
It would be cool to meet some people from here while I'm up there :-)

If you want to let me drive your car and you pay my way I'll be there :D
Is this your first time to the track? If so, be prepared to have some of the most fun of your life.

haha, too bad its already sold out so I couldn't pay for you if I wanted to :-)
And no, I went one time last year. You are right, it was the most fun I've had! I only signed up for one out of 2 days last year and regretted having to leave after the first day.
I've upgraded quite a few bushings and other suspension components, and will have more brake cooling, so it'll be even more fun this time!
Edit: I just noticed that you have a 944. Lets trade for a day! :-D

Trust me, your car is a lot more fun. 150hp sucks :(

from what I've heard I'm avoiding trackmaster... the PCA clubs are the most fun and cheap to run there with.

Chris (zeromotorsports) was at the glen recently and got a ride along in a pace car (modded 07 camry) for $5 and said it was awesome. I want to get on the track so bad, but i need something to drive, the wife wont let the z near a track.
Edit: what is the cost of a novice day at the glen? Do you need any specific license before they let you on the track?

I was working on my car all day getting it ready for this week so you beat me to it!
But yeah, $250/day and you just need a normal license.
Theblue, what is a PCA club? I drive with Trackmasters because I bought my car from one of the founding members and he told me about it.

One of my friends will be there in a Supercharged E36 M3. His name is BlownM3Bill on http://www.607speed.com if you want to get ahold of him. (See http://607speed.com/forums/p/1922/2783.aspx#2783).
And what's wrong with Trackmasters? I've never had or heard of any problems with them.

My boss said he's going. He drives an 89 corvette. It's painted burnt orange chevy color. Can't miss it.
His name is Dave. Tell him that Jeff said hi if you see him. It'll be like i'm haunting him even when he's not at work. :)

Man, this thread is still around? I didn't see any of the replies after DriverDan's until just today!
I would have stopped by to say hi to those people otherwise :-)
I had a great time though, although I did manage to do a 720 on the last lap of the last session on the first day.

Here are a few pics the photographer that goes there took.

As far as my 720....My instructor (also the guy I bought the car from and one of the founding partners in the accounting firm I work for) kept telling me I was braking too early on a few corners, one of them being turn 6, where you come down the back shoot into the laces of the boot. I had been getting more and more confident with braking deeper into the turn, and it was working out well for the most part :-) The last run of the first day I was really getting into it. I came into that corner and thought I could take it just a little deeper this time before braking...well I was still braking when I began my turn in. My back end came out, I counter steered, kept it facing the direction down the track and then it just snapped around. Luckily we were way out ahead of the pack, far enough that we had time to stop, pull over, talk for a second, and pull out again. The photographer saw it happen too but didn't have time to snap a picture! I flat spotted one of my tires, but other than that I didn't break anything, or even go off the pavement :-)
I can't wait to go again next year!

Since this is a "driving school" they do not time the laps. I was also in the Novice class (hopefully moving up to intermediate if the head instructor allows me to without the mandatory 6 track days) so you get stuck in a lot of trains that affect the lap times.
As far as speeds, my top speed on the back straight was probably 130-135, but my car is slow :-)
I've ridden with instructors in 911 GT2s, GT3s, Corvette Z06s, etc that hit 150+ on the back straight.
I've also been in a porsche 911 race car that the guy races (leaded gas, 1 lug on each wheel, full roll cage, gps lap timers, etc etc) that we hit probably 180 on the back straight. That was insane! We did a 2:02 lap time in that car.
